White Russell discusses the Marvel Future, and reveals why he’s “hesitant” to join the MCU

It’s been over a calendar year since Wyatt Russell made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his portrayal of John Walker is still being talked about by people. As one of the most prominent performers in The Hawk and the Winter SoldierThe third-generation actor is curious about where he’ll appear next. With both the recently announced Thunderbolts movie as well as the fast-paced Captain America 4 movie in development, Russell has no shortage of opportunities where he can see the American agent appear next. Even with the many avenues to take Walker, Russell admitted he’s in the dark about his own Marvel future.

“No, you never know,” Russell said. “They do a really good job of keeping it a secret.” collider. “It’s part of the cuteness. You always wish you could come back and hope to get a phone call. If you pick up the phone and Marvel is on the other end of the line, you’re like, ‘Okay, cool, let’s get to work.'” “

Russell continued, joking that it would be physically difficult if he were to come back.

“For Marvel’s secret training camp, that was two and a half years ago, or almost three years ago. No, we loved shooting. [The Falcon and the Winter Soldier]. All the workouts and all I did, Russell said, if I got a phone call, it would take a lot of runway to get back in shape like that. “I’ve lost every ounce of muscle and physique I have, but that’s the fun part. Honestly, that was a huge part of taking on the role as well.”

When fans last saw Walker, he was getting along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus Vale, a mysterious female soldier who also gets to know the services of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. This came shortly after Walker assisted both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in their fight against the Flag Smashers, and he appears to have veered back into the good fight. While Walker’s motives remain a mystery, Russell hopes the “struggle with self” narrative will continue.

“I didn’t really think, if the character comes back, what I hope it becomes. There are so many different ways you can go with it. I just hope it continues like this no matter what, a struggle with the self,” Walker said. “This is something I can do, as I think it should be done. As long as he has this struggle within himself, he can change his mind and can undergo treatment. There are so many different ways you can go. I just hope things go in a fun way, but in a certain way, that’s I can not do nothing about it. “

The sky is the limit for Russell in the MCU, but that almost never happens. The actor revealed the pressure of playing Captain America almost made him back out of the role.

“I feel like every actor says this, but at first, I was very hesitant. If you’re a fan Lodge 49, you weren’t going, “This guy’s going to play Captain America.” “I had the same reaction,” Russell said. “I was like, ‘Are you sure you want me to play Captain America?'” You don’t know what to try, so I was like, “Okay, I’ll go in and do the test and see what if I get it.” And then, I got it and said, ‘Okay, cool. Who am I playing? I had a meeting with [The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director] Kari Skogland and Zoie Nagelhout from Marvel, and they showed me a picture of Captain America. At first, I was like, “Oh my God.” Captain America is a very difficult character to play because his moral compass always points north.

“She’s such a hard character to pull off. And when you have someone who’s been really good at it, just do it, who’s so likable, you’ll go, ‘I don’t want to play that guy.'” This is an impossible shoe to fill. No, by no means, I’m not your man,” Russell continued. “And then, they said, ‘No, no, no, it’s that other character.’ And when we started talking about it, I was like, “Well, I can have some ownership of this character because I can make it whatever I want, in certain ways.” They gave me the opportunity to really do it and put a stamp on it. The work experience was so great because they really listened and took into account the ideas you have. I hope I was giving brief and clear ideas, so it wasn’t confusing. I ran with the character and was really happy with the way it turned out. They gave the character some pity and he was an interesting character in the MCU that hadn’t been done before. It’s always great to do this to someone that hasn’t been done before because you really have to put a stamp on it. I had a great time. It’s great to work with them. “
